Batman: The Animated Series ran on Fox Kids from 1992 to 1995, and collectors chase three groups of figures from it: Kenner’s 1990s toy line with its vehicles, DC Collectibles’ 6-inch figures from 2014, and later licensed releases from McFarlane Toys, Mondo and Funko. Complete, boxed Kenner pieces are the classic buy.
When did Batman: The Animated Series air?
The series premiered on Fox Kids on September 5, 1992, and its last episode aired on September 15, 1995, for 85 episodes in all. Warner Bros. Animation produced it. After the first 65 episodes, the show was retitled The Adventures of Batman & Robin, so toys and tapes from the later years carry that name.
It sits beside X-Men in our 1990s cartoon collectibles section. Both shows arrived on Fox Kids in the fall of 1992, but X-Men came with a Toy Biz figure line already in stores, while Kenner’s Batman figures followed the premiere. Our X-Men animated series toys guide covers the Toy Biz side.
What did Kenner make for the show?
Kenner’s line started with six figures. The cards are dated 1992, but a collector history of the line says they reached stores closer to January 1993, a few months after the premiere. Kenner kept adding waves through 1994, then carried on in 1995 under The Adventures of Batman & Robin name.
| First Kenner wave | Type |
|---|---|
| Combat Belt Batman | Hero |
| Turbojet Batman | Hero |
| Robin | Hero |
| The Penguin | Villain |
| The Riddler | Villain |
| Two-Face | Villain |
One collector guide credits the line’s wide cast of characters, villains included, for its long run. The vehicles matter as much as the figures. Checklists for the line include the Batmobile, the Batplane, the Batcycle, the Jokermobile and the Robin Dragster.
What should you check on a Kenner figure or vehicle?
Kenner figures came with launchers and capes, and those parts are what most loose figures are missing. Compare any listing with a checklist before you buy.
- Accessories: match every part to the card back or a checklist photo. A figure without its launcher or cape is incomplete.
- Cloth capes: look for tears and stains.
- Action features: firing missiles and grappling hooks should still work, and springs can weaken.
- Vehicles: count the stickers and firing parts. Box flaps and inserts add value.
- Card or box: creases, a yellowed bubble or a resealed flap all lower a carded piece.

Condition, completeness and packaging decide what one is worth. A sealed first-wave card and a loose figure missing its gear are very different buys.
Which licensed figures came after Kenner?
The show kept getting new toy lines long after it ended. Each one follows the series’ character designs, and each has its own scale and price level.
| Maker | Line | Dated facts |
|---|---|---|
| DC Collectibles | 6-inch figures based on the show’s look | First figures released in 2014 |
| McFarlane Toys | Figures from the show, continuing the DC Direct animated line | Picked up the line in 2022; a 30th anniversary Batman announced for October 2022; Build-A-Figure waves revealed in 2026 |
| Mondo | 1/6 scale figures | Mask of the Phantasm figure revealed in September 2023; limited edition Two-Face revealed in October 2025 |
| Funko | Pop! vinyl figures under the show’s license | New Pops, Ra’s al Ghul among them, revealed in February 2025 |
DC Collectibles said in 2014 that it worked from the original character design sheets used by the show’s creative team. McFarlane’s May 2026 wave includes Detective Bullock and the Ventriloquist with Scarface, with Renee Montoya as the Build-A-Figure.
Should you buy Kenner or a newer figure?
It depends on what you want on the shelf. Kenner figures are the toys sold while the show was on the air, built for play with action features and accessories. They are the pick for anyone collecting the 1990s line itself.
The newer lines are made mainly for display. DC Collectibles and McFarlane figures follow the show’s look closely. Mondo’s 1/6 scale figures are larger pieces, some sold as limited editions, and Funko Pops are small stylized vinyl figures. Pick one line and scale for a display, since figures from different makers rarely look right side by side.
How do you avoid customs and fakes?
Licensed only
For a gift, a new McFarlane or Funko figure in its box is the safe choice. A complete Kenner vehicle or carded figure suits a collector who already knows the line.

Is the series on Blu-ray?
Warner Bros. released Batman: The Complete Animated Series on Blu-ray on October 30, 2018, remastered for the first time since its broadcast. The set holds 109 episodes on 10 discs, with two bonus discs for the films Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero.
The deluxe limited edition added a 90-minute documentary, three Funko figurines of Batman, the Joker and Harley Quinn, and seven lenticular art cards. Warner Bros. raised its run to 70,000 units before release. A complete deluxe set still has all of these extras.
